There are so many parts of our body that are hard to tell whether or not it is healthy. For example, your nails/nail beds, eyebrows, facial skin, etc.
Vaseline, which is just your household petroleum jelly, can condition and moisturize your soon-to-be luxurious lashes that are being hopelessly neglected. Vaseline is also used for chapped lips or keeping hair dye off your ears when you are getting crazy with the dye in your bathroom.
Our eyelashes happen to be one of those body parts that gets neglected. Whether it is from you leaving the same mascara on for a few days and not thoroughly washing it off or from rubbing your eyes too much during allergy season.
A vaseline mask is going to help your eyelashes grow longer, thicker, stronger, and healthier. The best way to get longer eyelashes with Vaseline is to keep your face clean. And whatever you are going to use to apply the vaseline, that needs to be clean as well.
This trick is going to work wonders for your eyelashes. You will have longer and thicker lashes in no time at all.
Ultimately giving you the beautiful eyes you have been looking to achieve.
Getting Set Up
First things first, you are going to have to clean your mascara wand if you don’t have an extra wand already available. This is necessary for getting the Vaseline to stick to your eyelashes.
Cleaning:
Grab whatever tool you are going to use, online tutorials recommend a mascara wand, but realistically you could use a regular makeup brush or just your fingers. A mascara wand will be able to get in between the lashes where your fingers can’t reach.
To clean your mascara wand, you are going to need a towel of some form. A paper towel you will be able to ball up and just throw away when you are done with it, but a regular towel works just as well. If you use a paper towel to wipe off all the mascara on your mascara wand, then you are going to want to make sure that no tiny pieces of paper get caught on the bristles. Be gentle when you are clean your makeup wand though. You need all those fine little bristles to get in between your lashes.
Still cleaning:
Realistically whatever tool you are using is going to need to be cleaned a little more thoroughly than just wiping it off with a towel. If that is the case, be sure to have a makeup remover around or just soap. Because this is an eyelash mask and is going to be sitting so close to your eye, we want to make sure that you don’t get any eye infections.
If there is makeup that is not coming off, there are many ways for you to take off the makeup from the applicator. (Wand, Brush, comb, whatever it may be). One of the best makeup removers that I have found works is using a mix of olive oil and dish soap. Soak your makeup applicator in that mixture and all of the makeup should come off. You should have a clean applicator left in your hands.
If there is any extra makeup, rubbing alcohol will usually pull any extra sticky makeup off.
Drying:
Using a different towel than before, dry your makeup applicator. It needs to be thoroughly dry before it can touch the vaseline. Vaseline is an oil based product meaning it is just going to slide off anything that is wet with H2O. Again, be careful when drying your mascara wand, if that is what you are using to apply the vaseline. You are going to need all those little bristles. If not, try not to destroy your new Vaseline applicator.
Eyelash Mask
Now it is time to apply the mask to your eyelashes. This process is a little messy but ultimately worth it to get the full lashes that you have been dreaming of. Be very careful when applying the vaseline. Do NOT get it in your eye. It is not a fun time.
And we’re cleaning again:
So keeping to our cleanliness theme, it is important that when doing this eyelash mask. This means you are going to need to take off any mascara, eyeliner, or glitter from the day. Not to mention it is better for your skin if you take all your makeup off. If you don’t have a makeup remover here are 20 of the Best Makeup Removers.
The cleaner your face, the better vaseline can do it’s job. Moving on to using the eyelash mask.
Using vaseline:
Mix up your vaseline. Go as wild or as easy as you want. But the warmer the vaseline gets, the easier it is going to go on your eyelashes and stick to your makeup applicator properly. Having too much Vaseline on your eyes can lead to break outs, which is not what we want. That being said, that means that you have to have a glob of vaseline on your eyelashes… and then leave it there overnight… then your skin is at a higher risk of breaking out.
Moving on to the fun part: you are going to want to apply a substantial amount of vaseline on whatever your applicator may be. The Vaseline is going to clump up on the front of your brush. If that happens spread the vaseline evenly around, or until you think it is even enough. If you are using your fingers to put the vaseline on your lashes, you are going to need to wash your hands before and after you touch your eyes. You don’t want to get an eye infection. Keep your eyes safe.
Application:
If you have sensitive skin, do a patch test first to make sure you won’t have an allergic reaction around your eyes. We don’t need you waking up in the morning and not being able to open your eyes.
After that is all said and done… pretend you are applying makeup and push the vaseline on to your eyelashes. I know, I know. It is going to be hard to ignore the gooey stickiness of the vaseline, but it is going to be okay. If your eyes water a little bit, that is also fine. Petroleum jelly lets water slide right off, so your tears are not going to ruin the eyelash mask. You are going to want to apply the vaseline to all sides of your lashes. Top, bottom, right, left. All around. This will take a little bit of time and might frustrating, but it is worth it.
Beauty Rest (Quite Literally):
Be prepared for your lashes to stick together. Do be careful not to use too much. We are trying to keep the rest of your face clean while you sleep.
Now that you have applied this mess to your eyelashes and you feel like your eyes are being weighed down, it is time for a good nights rest. That means a full night of sleep. We’re talking about 8 hours here.
And clean again…:
In the morning, wash your face and clean all the vaseline off your eyes. If you are having trouble getting it off, use one of the 20 Best Makeup Removers again. Because the vaseline is oil based, using water might not be enough to pull it off your lashes. Continue with your regular makeup routine, and in no time you will will see fabulous lashes.
Apply every night and if you do it consistently you will have longer lashes in about three days.
Seeing the Results
Apply vaseline regularly. Every evening. For about a week. You’ll see longer lashes within about three days.
